The Power of Teams of Integrity
Teams of Integrity are powerful tools in a company’s strategy for growth and sustainability. The interesting part of a company’s decision to spend time on building great teams is that the value of teams is extremely difficult to measure. Most company leaders consequently spend much less time on reviewing the impact of a powerful team because it is not specifically quantifiable. Powerful teams have a comprehensive and pervasive impact throughout the organization, and that impact often cannot be attributed to specific activity that takes place within a team.
Teams of Integrity are powerful for two reasons:
The first reason is the reason that speaks to my heart because of my corporate background. Based on conversations I have had with hundreds of other people, I know it will speak to you too! A powerful team eliminates political maneuvering and the confusion that takes place when you are trying to function in that kind of environment. Because team members no longer have to waste energy in an effort to figure out the underlying motivation behind communications, behavior and actions, the more able they are to get an overabundance of work done in much less time that it would normally take. In addition, they do it with less effort and a great deal of camaraderie. I have had the privilege of working on teams who were working toward a common goal, did not play games, communicated well, and were producing at eight to ten times what similar teams were able to accomplish in half the time. These kinds of results create a very potent claim for success, not only for the team but for the individuals on the team as well.
The second reason teams of integrity are powerful is that the people who are on the team often are extremely happy, and are rewarded well each day just by serving on the team. Team members have a sense of connection and a strong feeling of belonging. There is an energy that flows between them, encouraging dialogue, creativity and growth. This energy often carries over into their personal lives, enabling stronger families, church groups, sports and social activities to flourish. It goes far beyond the bricks and mortar of a company’s walls.
Companies who wish to partner in creating a better community from a financial perspective, as well as from a sense of unity and cooperation, would do well to spend time building and maintaining strong teams built on integrity. A word of caution comes with the statement made previously: Building and maintaining powerful teams of integrity requires courage and a great deal of hard work. Companies that are up to the challenge will be those companies who prove successful over time.
