Doing What You Love – A Non-negotiable Choice
When you make central to your life those things that bring you the greatest joy, you are filled with energy. This is what incorporates who you are into your world, and helps you live from the very core of your being.
Have you made your list of dreams? There was a movie made in the last couple of years called The Bucket List, starring Jack Nicholsen and Morgan Freeman. In it, two men diagnosed with terminal cancer created a list of everything they wanted to do before their spirits moved on. I don’t know about you, but I prefer the name “Dream List”. When you have created a dream list, and you begin making those dreams real, you are making a nonnegotiable choice to not overlook yourself as life passes by.
We all have so many pressures on us to provide for our families and to make sure our kids have all the opportunities available in school and in after-school activities we often forget to live our lives to the fullest, spending them doing the things we love to do. It is necessary for us to make this conscious choice to live from who we are. It is what makes us feel alive and vital, and promises us our own unique path well worth following. So, how do you do it?
Choose one item each day from your Dream List. Pushing yourself to do little things like filling the house with fresh flowers, cooking dinner with your kids or dancing with your spouse can add vibrancy to your life. It’s the simple things that often give us the most pleasure. You often have to be creative and resourceful to make it happen. That’s the challenge, but what fun to rise to the challenge!
When you pursue your passions, you are honoring your internal values and life intentions. It may also involve recognizing and affirming your need for major life changes. When you act on your Dream List, you often find your passions coming in a domino effect, one right after another, allowing you to become more and more who you really are.
